January 13 – June 5

David Grove developed an interesting variation of the Coles Phillips “fadeaway” technique by melding background and foreground colors and values. This demands much preliminary planning for the final result to look so spontaneous.
Grove was born in Washington, D.C. and attended the Syracuse University School of Art. In 1964, he took a year off to travel in Europe but stayed on in Paris for several years as freelancer. Following another stint in London with Artist Partners Ltd., he returned to the States—to San Francisco—and the west coast has been his home base since.
